I'm sitting pondering deep in thought about this one and shake my head in shame. Yes, I meekly admit that I have tried this one (a few times just to be sure). But I blame it on the countless that have testified to its effectiveness! This is what I like to call the snowball effect and it's the only reason these half brained remedies are still around. One person tries a product/remedy states its effectiveness for millions to see. The only ones bothered to respond are the ones that it was effective for (which is usually coincidence, i.e. their cold sore was just a phantom) and it creates one big snowball that gets bigger and bigger!
There is no scientific evidence for this remedy. Who ever came up with this, I take my hat off to you. You must be laughing yourself silly with the thought of thousands smearing their own (I hope) earwax on their lips. I've tried this more than once and it has in no way effected the duration of the cold sore or the healing time even when caught really early.
So, I don't want to hear from anyone that thinks this remedy works. I want to hear from those who it hasn't worked for! We need to nip this really old wives tale in the bud before it really gets out of hand!
